JOYS POV

I was overwhelmed with emotions. Id never been out of this town before, let alone this city. I was leaving Portland for the first time ever. I felt less tense, now that I was no longer in the same environment as Martin. I was grateful that I was finally out of that house that had so many bad memories.

They were still fresh in my mind. My heart instantly felt heavy as I reminisced, coming home from school and seeing Martin yell at my mom in the kitchen, throwing a few slaps at her occasionally, but my mom would come to the dining room to serve us dinner with a grin on her face, acting as though nothing had happened.

And my brother, Jamie, couldn stand Martin. He had seen him hitting our mom a couple times and would often start a fight with Martin because of that. He knew what Martin did to us and he hated Martin for being such a horrible person. Jamie was always very protective of me and my mother, the three of us had a bond unlike any other.

Although all of those memories were quite traumatic, the one most bitter and painful of all, was the day he took their lives.

The memories were as clear as daylight and the images of my moms and my brothers cold bodies lying in pools of blood, were engraved into my brain.

I sucked in a good amount of air, feeling the waterworks, building up. Don cry Joy. I tried to calm myself, but the wound was still fresh, and the scar was one that would never heal.

I looked at the greenery through the window pane of the moving car. It looked beautiful. Id always been a fan of the outdoors but I never had the chance to explore.

”You
e so quiet. What are you thinking about? ” Leyonce asked, glancing at me with a small smile on her face.

”Nothing. ” I muttered distantly, plugging my earphones into my old android phone, then putting them on.

I knew I was being rude right now but it wasn intentional, I just didn feel like talking. I had buried my mom and my brother yesterday, I was still grieving.

Leyonce had stayed with me last night because she saw how afraid I was of Martin. And shes been nothing but sweet to me since I met her at the funeral. Right now we were heading to the airport, on our way to New York.

As I listened to my music, one of my moms favourite songs came up. Fast car by Tracy Chapman. I never knew Tracy Chapman but I grew to love her because of my mom, and her music was amazing.

I never quite knew the lyrics that well, but I loved the song. I smiled remembering how mom and I would play it on her phone and sing along as she braided my hair at night.

But just as quick as that smile came, it disappeared, when it dawned on me that I would never have those nights again. I would never hear my mothers unique and exotic laugh, one that always brought a smile to my face. Jamie and I used to laugh at how loud and funny her laugh was, it was one of the things that we loved the most about her.

Oh, Jamie. Why did you leave at such a young age?

I couldn control the tears anymore, I just cried, facing the window so Leyonce wouldn see me.

Not long after, we arrived at the airport. Id never seen an airport in real life, so I was amazed by how big it was. Although there weren as many people as I thought there would be. Probably because it was night already.

As we got out of the expensive car we had been riding in, I was surprised when a woman in a stewardess uniform escorted us away from the very small crowd. Weren we going to buy tickets and all that stuff? My jaw dropped when we stopped in front of a big white private jet.

I noticed that the jet had a small marking close to the wing. E. M Transportations. I knew that brand, how can I not, when it was my mothers favourite brand. She could never afford to buy anything from E. M enterprises, but she still loved and favored the company very much.

E.M.E, short for Elliot Morelli Enterprises, was a famous business company that had branches all over the world. From every continent to every country. They designed high-tech gadgets and some of the most unique cars. The founder of E.M Enterprises was a mystery to everyone. Thats one of the things that attracted people to the brand, they were curious and intrigued. The founders name was very famous yet nobody had seen who he was and what he looked like. Or was he a she? They also had clothing stores, boutiques with high quality clothes. I really liked their clothes but mom could never afford to buy even a single shirt from there.

I never thought Id get to touch any of the E.M designs in my entire life, yet here I was today, getting on one of the E.M private jets. Either this was a rental, or my father was super rich, to be able to afford a E.M private jet.

”Good evening, ladies. Im Simon, the pilot and this is Ben, the co-pilot for the night. ” The man in the pilot uniform introduced himself along with his friend.

I got settled inside the aeroplane, still excited and in disbelief. The stewardess whos name, Id learnt, was Brittany, offered sweets and snacks, she was very nice. Leyonce made small talk with me and I was less rude this time. At first I was annoyed because I didn feel like talking but I warmed up a bit and we chatted.

The aeroplane departed and I was mesmerized by the view of my city through the window of the jet. I found myself smiling at it.

”What is my dad like? ” I asked Leyonce as we ate some snacks.

”Hmm. ” She hummed, looking as if she was deep in thoughts at my question.

”Well, hes ki- no, hes, hes your father. ” Leyonce shrugged and chuckled, not knowing how to describe him to me.

And I let out a small laugh at her expression, causing her to grin.

I ended up falling asleep, soon after that.
