Chapter 7 [Part 1] – That’s My Job

After leaving the gate, Ventus guided Ashia to a small cabin in the forest.

“This is where I come to rest once in a while.”

He also mentioned that when he is tired of researching, he visits this place to calm himself down.
Thereafter, he poured hot tea into an old teacup and gave it to Ashia.

“I’m not sure if the taste will meet your expectations.
In fact, I don’t even remember the last time I made tea.”

As if he was embarrassed, Ventus scratched his cheek with a worried look on his face.
Ashia, who drank the hot tea, smiled at his face.

“It tastes the same as the one you used to make in the tower.”

“Really…..? That’s a relief.”

“Yes, it still tastes bitter.”

“……What?”

As Ashia looked at his round eyes, she briefly frowned before bursting into a mischievous laugh.

After that, Ventus and Ashia started to fill in each other on the events they have missed about each other.

How have you been doing since you left the tower? What have you been up to? After being asked that, I was able to hear information about the tower that I couldn’t ask other people.

However, not all the information we exchanged was pleasant to the ears.
In the midst of it, there was definitely a couple of pleasant and unpleasant news.
Nevertheless, we talked for a long time as if we met a friend from our hometown.

“By the way, did you open a store in the capital?”

“Yes, it’s on Dershio Street, Third Avenue.”

“That’s great.
You settled down as soon as you left the tower, right?”

“I was lucky.
What I learned from Ven was very helpful.”

Ventus, who was holding his chin with the hand that was resting on the table, said with a pleased smile.

“Well, show me around the store that I helped in a lot.”

Ashia smiled softly at his playful expression.

“Of course, but I can’t do it right now.
I have a pile of uncompleted work that needs to be dealt with.
It’s the Grand Duke’s request.”

“Oh? You must be very busy then.”

“Yes, I have to acquire the necessary ingredients for the potion, so I think I’m going to be busy for a while.”

“Ingredients?”

Ashia nodded her head as she glanced at the teacup.

“Yes.
His Highness Kaligo…….is a pure fire attribute.”

“Oh, that’s right.”

“He’s a pure fire attribute and is of high class.”

“Oh, pure! That’s why you need special ingredients, right?”

As Ashia continued to speak, Ventus’ eyes widened.

“Yes, I didn’t get the ingredients in advance because only a few people needed them.”

“What’s bothering you then? If you are in need of a distributor, I can find someone.”

“No.
I’m probably the only one who has the ability to get it.”

“Huh?”

When Ventus noticed that Ashia was smiling, a confused look made its way on his face.

Ingredients that only Ashia can get.

The place where you can acquire the ingredients is a place where no one else can get in.
To be exact, it was a place you couldn’t enter without her permission.

The Fairies’ Forest.
It was a place that is only mentioned in old books.
At present, dragons, fairies, and gods are believed to be just legends.
As the saying goes, “The Fairies’ Forest” has long vanished and forgotten from human life.

Because I knew the original story, I could find its existence first before anyone else.
Although she did not find it on her own, Ashia, who had to be kicked out of the tower before she reached adulthood, could not afford to dwell on her conscience.

Thanks to this, she was able to open a potion shop, make her name known, and earn a lot of gold.
So, even if she turns back in time and goes back, her choice will not change.

“Ashia?”

Ashia, who was immersed in her thoughts, was called by Ventus.

“Ah……I’ll tell you everything later.”

There was no need for me to hide it from him, but I’m sure Ventus would want to hear it in full detail.
However, Ashia couldn’t manage to do it today due to lack of strength.

Ashia then rose from her chair, while Ventus followed.

“Are you leaving now?”

“Yes.
I have to go to work.”

Ventus burst into laughter at the sight of Ashia, who had her fists clenched with a determined look on her face.

“Alright, today is not the only day anyway.”

“That’s right.”

“I’ll open a gate for you.
You said Dershio Street, Third Avenue, right?”

“No need, I can do it myself.”

“Huh?”

Ashia reached her hand out into the air.
The blue mana flowing out of her fingertips fluttered along the movement in the air, creating a gate.

“Oh…….”

Ashia couldn’t create a gate before she left the tower.
It seems like she wasn’t just focused on making potions.

“Well then, I’ll get going.”

“Yes, I’ll see you again soon, Ashia.”

“Yes.”

Ashia then turned to the gate.
Beyond the gate, white snowflakes slowly fluttered through the landscape.

‘Snow…..?’

It was snowing in Carmain, the capital where her shop was located.
Upon knowing that, she tightened her robe before she stepped into the gate.

Ashia, who came through the gate, looked up at the sky.
A small snowflake landed on her forehead and her cheeks.

‘I can’t believe it’s going to snow…’

There was a considerable amount of snow piled up on the floor, to the point that sounds resonated.

‘This is why there are no customers.’

Well, it wasn’t a loss since she just got a huge amount of gold in advance.

The moment Aisha, who was thinking about her heavy pockets, took a step forward, a large person propped up in front of her store came into view.

“Huh?”

Since he had been sitting there for a while, a considerable amount of snow had piled up on top of his light brown hair and both of his shoulders.
Astonished, her face was pale as she called out to him.

“Tero?!”

The man who was curled up raised his head slowly.
Despite his small movements, the snow on his hair fell to the floor.

“Sister.”

Only then did Teros raise his folded body.
When he stood up from his seat, his long shadow hung over the white snowfield.
Ashia, who ran all the way under the shadow, nagged at him.

“Tero, you! I’ve told you several times to get into the store and wait!”

“I said that there was a key under the pot! How many times have I said that?”
“How many times?!”
“……….
Three times.”
“Yeah! Three times! Huh? You know it!”

While listening to her loud nagging, he began to grow a timid smile on his face.

“How long have you been waiting here? You will freeze to death!”

Ashia frowned heavily, yanking away the snow on Teros’ shoulders.
She wiped all the snow off his shoulders and then tried to remove the snow on his hair, but he was too tall.

“Head!”

Then Teros bent down and lowered his head.
Ashia’s fingers swept through Teros’ wet hair.
She continued to sigh out of lamentation as she shook off the water that had already melted and the snow that had piled up on his head.

“Oh, my God! What is this!”

She furrowed her eyebrows and shook the snow off Teros.

“Let’s head inside for now.
You can’t shake the snow off like this.”

Teros pulled Ashia’s hand and lead her into the store.

“Sister.”
“Hmm?”

Ashia turned again and looked him in his eyes.
He reached into the inside pocket of his coat, looking for something.

“I don’t have time for that.
I have to go to the palace now.”

“Already? Have a meal first.”

“Now that I’m here, I’ve got something to give you.
I have been yearning to give this to you.
“Something you want to give to me?”

Teros took a small potion bottle and held it out to Ashia.
Ashia lifted the bottle up and looked into it.

“What’s this?”
“The spring water from the Fountain of Trust.”

At his answer, Ashia, who was looking at the bottle of spring water, turned her head toward Teros.

“What?”
“You said you were curious.”

His words suddenly reminded her of what she had said a week ago.

-There’s a Fountain of Trust in the temple.
-Yes, I know.
-What is the spring water from that fountain made up of? I heard that it’s only available in the temple.
-Do you want me to give it to you?
– … If you want to.
-Oh, no.
It’s really not! No, huh? Tero! Look! It’s really not like that! I said no! Okay?

As the conversation that took place that day became more vivid, Ashia’s face turned a brighter colour than Teros’, which was blue due to the cold.

“Hey, how did you get this?! It’s not easy to even get near to the Fountain of Trust!”

The eyes of Teros curved smoothly.

“I did so because you told me to get you a bottle of spring water if I changed from an Imperial Knight to a Holy Knight of the Temple.”

Ashia’s eyes grew bigger than ever.

“What?”
“Don’t tell me… You-”

Ashia could not speak and just opened her mouth.
Teros smiled softly and brushed off the snow that had begun to pile up on her shoulders.

“Come on in, you’ll catch a cold.”
“Tero!!!”
“Ugh.”

Ashia burst into tears and Teros closed his eyes tightly.

“You! How did you become a Holy Knight!”
“What are you so surprised about? I’m just gifted.”
“You’re changing to a Holy Knight for this one thing!”
“That’s not the only reason.
Being a Holy Knight is much better.”
“You.
Really!”

Ashia was speechless once again.
Teros’ eyebrows drooped down.

“… Do you know that you’ve been yelling at me for a while?”

The shadows of the two, who stood still for a long time, were cast over the white road covered in snow.
Ashia looked at Teros and said in a quiet voice.

“Tero, I don’t need this.”
“……….
Sister.”

“Return it.”

Ashia continued with a deep sigh.

“You said you were really burdened by this, right?”
“…… Let me do this.
I know how much you’ve been suffering….”
“Tero.”

Her low voice cut his words coldly.

“It’s my job.”
“It’s none of your business.”

Teros expressed his disappointment at Aisha’s words, which drew a firm line.

Ashia has always drawn a line.
Her determination has been unwavering since the day of the accident.
Whatever the cause, it is undeniable that the accident on that day was caused by Ashia’s mana.

Even though he knows Ashia’s personality, he gets hurt every time she makes up her mind like today.

A fickle snowflake fell again in the space between the two people, where silence had fallen.

“It’s cold.
Go back.”
“I’ll give it back.”

The potion bottle containing the spring water was held out in front of Teros.
He stood away from Ashia’s hand and took a step back.

“……….
Tero.”
“That’s enough, please.
The procedure is already complete.
In a few days, I’ll be transferred to the Holy Knights of the Temple.”
“Tero!”
“I’m really getting better treatment.”

Tero took another step backwards.

“So… Please take it.
It’s a waste to throw it into the trash can.”

Among the fluttering snowflakes, Ashia’s heart throbbed at Teros’ bitter smile.

“You’re so…”
“Till next time then.
I’m in trouble.
Sister, I really need to go.”
” …… I see.
Go on, go ahead.”

Instead of answering, Teros smiled sadly with his eyes down.
Turning straight around, he went towards the palace.

Ashia looked at the back of Teros for a long time while she held the small polygonal glass bottle in her hand.

Seven years ago, the town of Tometeros, located in the northern part of the Karhan Empire, was ablaze.

During the night, when everyone was asleep and caught unaware by the sudden blaze of fire.

The fire was not easily extinguished, and the raging fire burned not only people’s homes but also their parents and siblings.

After a long week, the flames finally died down after satisfying its greed.

Teros was one of the children who lost their parents and siblings in the accident that day.

And it was Ashia Bliss who burned down the village.
