The Devoted Second Male Lead Decided to Favor Someone Else Chapter 26.1

Scarlet Rose [ABO] – What Happens When the Villain Dies at the Beginning? (1)

It was 2000 years in the future.
Humankind had long left Earth and traveled to outer space to find new homes.

The planet Lu Shijin was currently on was ruled by the Derain family.

Three hundred years ago, the first generation of Derains brought people here to establish a new regime.
In just a few hundred years, the originally barren planet rapidly developed to become one of the top nations in interstellar space.

However, under the appearance of peace, multiple forces conspired.

In this ABO world, spiritual power was a symbol of strength and what worked best when it came to ruling others.

Alphas with more powerful spiritual power could even use that to force other Alphas and Omegas without that much spiritual power to submit, without releasing any pheromones.

And only the children of the most powerful Alphas and the best Omegas could be an Alpha with extremely powerful spiritual power.

Omegas were rare, and Omegas with good genes were even rarer.
As soon as one appeared, they’d instantly become objects for the upper class to trade around.

As a result, Omegas became birth machines for the upper class to have children with good genes  and consolidate their status.

In this drama, Lu Shijin was a rich young master, once again sharing the same name.

When Lu Shijin was born, all his tests showed excellent results.

Everyone thought that he’d become a great Alpha, but as if the Heavens were playing a joke, not only did he develop late, he also developed into an Omega.

Even as an Omega, Lu Shijin’s spiritual power was much greater than that of normal Alphas.

But an Omega was an Omega in the end.
Alphas and Omegas had vastly different social standings.
The empire had laws in place, forbidding Omegas from participating in politics and stating that they must mate with an Alpha once they come of age to bear the responsibility of giving birth to future generations.

This was equivalent to a death sentence for Lu Shijin’s promising future.

Lu Shijin’s father was a powerful prime minister, and obviously wasn’t willing to allow his son to become some birth machine to be traded between the wealthy and powerful, undermining his power.

So the prime minister used certain methods to conceal his son’s Omega status and announced that Lu Shijin was an Alpha.

Although Lu Shijin was an Omega, he wasn’t willing to admit defeat.

He wanted to prove that he could do anything Alphas could do, that he wasn’t inferior to them in any way.

Lu Shijin had been waiting for an opportunity to make a name for himself, to change the views people had on Omegas, and to fight for equality for all Omegas.

Coincidentally, an opportunity presented itself.

Not long ago, a powerful marshal, who had never lost a single battle, was assassinated.
After investigation, it was revealed that it was done by the underground force ‘Scarlet Rose.’

“Scarlet Rose” was a group formed by violent extremists, maniacs who thought nothing about murder.

Their leader was a male Alpha who went by the code name ‘Blood Owl.’

No one knew Blood Owl’s true appearance or identity.

But he committed countless crimes, each one more terrifying than the next.

The reigning king of the empire was the seventh emperor, Neptune Derain.

Ten years ago, he usurped the throne from his older brother and married his sister in law as his queen.

In order to appease the old ministers who supported his brother, Neptune Derain appointed his nephew, Payne Derain, as heir.

But how could he leave the throne, that he had schemed so hard for, to someone else?

The marshal’s death gave Neptune the perfect opportunity.

Under the pretense of training the crown prince, he ordered Payne to personally arrest Blood Owl.

Blood Owl was cunning, and a large-scale operation is sure to arouse his vigilance, so Neptune designated this operation as a secret operation, and only allowed Payne to travel with three helpers.

Even an entire army wouldn’t be guaranteed to succeed in capturing Blood Owl.
Sending a small team of four was no different from sending them to their death.

The truth was, it was nothing more than a deal between the emperor and Blood Owl.

Neptune loved Payne’s mother and he had vowed to her that he would never harm Payne.

So, he paid Blood Owl 50 mechas in secret in order for him to deal with Payne.

As the king of the underworld, Blood Owl naturally didn’t care about 50 mechas.

The reason he agreed to the emperor’s deal was because Payne caught his eye.

Every emperor was the child of the previous emperor and the most superior Omega.

Payne had the purest of royal blood flowing through his veins, his spiritual power having exceeded over 90% of all the Alphas the moment he differentiated.

An Alpha like Payne was impossibly rare.
If used as a war machine, he would be invincible.

But Payne couldn’t be controlled by Blood Owl, so he came up with a plan of getting Payne to breed with an exceptional Omega and bringing up their kid as a powerful Alpha who listened to his orders.

Blood Owl could even have the child become the new emperor, and bring the entire planet under his control!

Payne’s supporters had seen through this plot and urged Payne to refuse.

But Payne was a soldier and couldn’t disobey.
If he couldn’t even deal with a single Blood Owl, then there was no way he could inherit the throne and rule the empire in the future.
