Let’s head to the mountains to collect materials

The next day, we headed for the mountains.
The transforming mechanism was in the magic excavator mode from the beach.

”The mountains are easy with this.”
 ”Unii~♪”
 ”Mogu~♪”
 ”Mogu-~!”
 ”Mo~gu~♪”
 ”Mogu mogu”
 ”Mogyu~”
 ”Koo~ koo~♪”

It’s thanks to the running part called a caterpillar track.
Thanks to it, we can move along the mountain path smoothly.
And everyone seems to be having a fun time riding the vehicle.

 — DosuUuuuun! [TL: … I know, it’s an odd sfx that doesn’t really match, but whatever…]

Then all of a sudden, rocks fell from the sky.
But that won’t work against the magic excavator.
Now then, after checking the surroundings, I found a few rock demons looking down from a high rocky area.
That type of monster is called a golem.
But unlike regular golems, these are overall blackish.
That material, no way!

”That guy, is he a golem made of asphalt?!”

 I’m also an architect.
I’m able to somehow get a feeling of what something’s constituent materials are from what I can see.
I also noticed the Lime Ammonite’s lime was high quality through the intuition and experience I’ve gained till now.
Now, asphalt wasn’t part of the materials we needed this time, but it will surely be useful later on.
There’s no harm in taking them down.
Incidentally, the big rocks that were thrown at us didn’t damage us at all.
There’s no need to worry about it.
However, the ground the opponent is on is at a high place.
Naturally, the excavator’s attack won’t reach them like this.

”Alright, then here I go! Crane Mode!”

 The magic excavator’s form changes.
The crane is a mode capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects.
A rod-like part called a boom can be expanded and contracted — by suspending an iron ball on its tip, it can be used to attack.
This is what we used previously when we defeated the long-necked dragon.
[TL: Reminder, I previously called this a plesiosaurus, but changed it]

”Here I go! Iron Ball Break!”

I expand the boom and swing it near the Asphalt Golem!

 — Don! Don! Doof!

After being hit by the swung iron ball, the defeated golem fell down and remained motionless.
Alright, got asphalt! I collect the golem into the dimensional warehouse.
Then from there I looked around and found a nice amount of Asphalt Golems, so I defeated them and stored them in the dimensional warehouse.
Now we have enough asphalt, but we haven’t found the crucial gypsum.

Thinking about that while going back to moving in the excavator, this time bandages wrapped around the vehicle’s body.
I took a look, and saw a monster covered in bandages.
Was it this guy’s bandages that targeted us? But those bandages — they look like plaster.

 ”Mogu-!”
 ”Unii~”

According to Uni, Marbo said that that was a Plaster Mummy.
Marbo really knows his stuff.
[TL: Plaster = gypsum.
Same thing, when it comes to JPN definitions]
Alright, now we’ve gotten a hold of some gypsum.
The bandages I can see wrapped around the excavator surely have gypsum.
The Plaster Mummy seems to be controlling it with magic power.
An attack with flexible bandages is probably powerful.
However, it won’t work on the magic excavator.

 ”Excavators are Power!”
 ”Gugya-!”

 Hm.
Hitting with the excavator’s bucket splendidly defeated the Plaster Mummy.
I’ll hit it another time to check.
 Yep, it’s stiff.
No doubt about it.
This Plaster Mummy’s bandages are gypsum.
If we hunt around for more of these, we’ll get enough for our needs.
I move the magic excavator in the mountains searching around for Plaster Mummies.
Plaster Mummies have a belligerent nature.
That’s probably the reason they rushed to attack me once they saw the excavator.
I defeated them one after the other.
Then this time a bone monster, a Skeleton, appeared.
Oh, nice.
This guy appears rather bare, but he’s like a lump of calcium.
Very useful in construction.
Calcium and gypsum can be obtained from natural sources, but when taken from monsters, they contain an abundance of magic power, which is convenient for magic architects who use architectural techniques.
That’s why we’ll make sure to properly hunt them.
The Skeletons are numerous, but have no durability.
Alright! I have just the thing for times like this!

 ”Mode change! Magic roller!”

This is also called a road roller.
The front wheel is cylindrical, and is originally meant to compact the ground.
But some call it the strongest weapon of all.

”Alright, here I go! The road roller!”

 — Bogibogibogibogibogibogibogibokiiiiii!

The sound of bones breaking rang out as the road roller ran through them from behind.
Well, they’re made of bone.

 ”That’s a lot.”
 ”Unii~!”
 ”Koo~♪”
 ”””””Mogu~”””””

A couple Asphalt Golems also appeared on the way, so I took them out with the iron ball as well.

 — Gong! Dosh! Bang! Dodododooooof!

”Fuu, the whole area is pure white.”

The mountainside has successfully been changed into a white landscape with things like bones and Plaster Mummies.
If it were snow, it would’ve been romantic, but it’s all bones and plaster.
Well, sometimes there’s black mixed in.
But that’s because we hunted Asphalt Golems too.

 ”For now, we’ll collect everything.
Transform, vacuum mode.”

The vehicle’s shape changes into that of a magic tank and hose.
With this hose, it’s possible to suck in various things and put it directly into the dimensional warehouse.

 ”Uni- uni-♪”

Sucking it all up with great enthusiasm, the Skeletons and Plaster Mummies, as well as the Asphalt Golems, are instantly collected.
Now then, with this, we’ve gotten gypsum, and incidentally also material for calcium and asphalt.

 ”GuooOooOoOooOOoo!”

It was then that I thought I heard a scream, that a huge skeletal monster appeared.
It also seemed to be staring this way with its eyeball-less, sunken eye sockets.
I immediately got into the vacuum vehicle with everyone else.
It swung down at us with a huge bone, but we were safe in here.

 ”Mogu-! Mogu-!”
 ”Unii~!”

Hmm, according to Marbo, it somehow seems that that is a monster named “Gashadokuro”… [TL: “Gashadokuro” is meant to be literally translated as “starving skeleton”, a giant skeleton said to be created from those who died in battle but weren’t buried.
However, the author used same-sounding kanji with a different meaning, which now literally translates as “silk skeleton”, with a more regal sense attached to it.
I’ll let you reach your own assumptions as to what that means…]
