Honestly, I got stuck on this chap about halfway through because I dreaded translating the long paragraphs.

Yan Qing Chi noticed him looking at the computer.
When he (YQC) walked over to check it out, he discovered that the computer screen was full of the woman’s vehement words that she had vented.
His gaze fell upon the magazine on the table.
On the front page of the magazine was Jiang Mo Chen, except his face had been utterly slashed up and covered in degrading language.

Yan Qing Chi wordlessly inhaled and exhaled.
He did not understand why the woman before him would harbor such intense animosity towards Jiang Mo Chen.
He looked at the poster plastered on the wall.
It was of a man about the same age as Jiang Mo Chen who was smiling very confidently and at ease.
Flamboyantly signed beside him was the autograph “Lin Ke”.

Yan Qing Chi had thought that fans who chased stars were all like the ones he had seen on Weibo.
They would fervently express their excitement and support for their idols.
They would rattle off their idols’ strengths and strive to become a better person.
Who would have thought there was also this kind of fan?

“But it didn’t matter anymore,” Yan Qing Chi thought.
They found the person, and he had already called the police.
Now all they had to do was wait for the police.

He slowly exhaled and said to Jiang Mo Chen, “I’ll go get your assistant.”

Jiang Mo Chen nodded.

Yan Qing Chi walked out and opened the door to see all the staff—from the director to the on-set crew members—standing there.
Moreover, because there were so many people, some were even standing on the stairs.

When Wang Xiang Hai and Liu Ai saw Yan Qing Chi come out, they immediately went up to ask him, “What happened?”

Yan Qing Chi made way for them, “You two go in.”

Then he looked towards the others, “Everyone disperse.
It’s nothing.”

After saying so, he closed the door again.

He directed Wang Xiang Hai and Liu Ai towards the bedroom, but didn’t go in.
He took a seat on the sofa.
After the initial rage and fright subsided, Yan Qing Chi finally calmed down.
However, he still had some lingering fear.
He reached out and searched around with his hand, looking for something to eat to calm himself down.
Yet, despite scouring his pockets, he couldn’t find anything.

“What’re you looking for?”

Yan Qing Chi lifted his head to see Jiang Mo Chen walking towards him.

“Did you bring anything to eat?” He asked.

Jiang Mo Chen rummaged around and took out several of the candies that he had given him (YQC) before.
He handed them over to the other man.

Yan Qing Chi unwrapped the candy and put it in his mouth, chomping on it with a “crackle crackle” sound.

Jiang Mo Chen took a seat next to him

“Thanks for today’s matter.” He said.

“No need to thank me.
Even if it was Ji Si Xing standing there, I wouldn’t be able to watch him get hurt.”

“You have very fast reflexes.
You’re very sharp.”

“So?” Yan Qing Chi turned to look at him.

Jiang Mo Chen smiled, “We can have Guan Mei sign you up for a skill-based variety show.”

Yan Qing Chi also smiled and didn’t say anything.

“Although, why were you so sure that it was her? Have you never thought that you might have found the wrong person? Or that she pushed it by accident.”

“If she pushed it off by accident, then she would go through a certain chain of reaction of shock such as peering out to check or freezing on the spot.
She wouldn’t duck behind the curtains so quickly.
I knocked on her door for so long and even barged into her house.
If I had the wrong person, then any typical person would feel terrified; their first response would be to protect themselves, not to run head-first into a trap to drive me away.
The reason why she would come out from the bedroom after I entered, without even grabbing something to defend herself with, was because she knew that we weren’t malefactors.
She knew that we came because of what she had just done.
That’s why she came straight out as soon as we entered and was so persistent in driving us out.”

“I’m quite surprised.
Aside from your fast reflexes as well as your swift and powerful speed, you are also quite astute.”

Yan Qing Chi didn’t say anything.
He merely unwrapped another candy wrapper wordlessly and continued to eat his candy.

Jiang Mo Chen thought about it and then slowly opened his mouth, “This is your first time encountering a situation like this, right?”

Yan Qing Chi turned to look at him.
Jiang Mo Chen smiled, “It’s not the first time for me.”

Now it was Yan Qing Chi’s turn to be surprised.

“This kind of existence that is opposite of a fan is called an ‘anti-fan’.
Their existence is because they don’t like you, are disgusted by you, spread malicious rumors about you as well as curse you.
Most anti-fans just hop around online and hate on you, but that’s it.
After all, everyone has their own lives to lead.
The students have to go to school, the adults have to work.
They don’t have that much time to invest their time in you.
But there are also some anti-fans who will take this kind of malicious intent into the real world.
They will commit some drastic acts.
Previously, there was a time where I was also almost hit by something.
Back then, I was a little muddled.
I felt angry—indignant—and I thought it was impervious to reason.
Afterwards, I understood and became accustomed to it.”

“But how did these ‘anti-fans’ form? Why do they hate you so much?”

“It’s just like how fans might like you because of your face, your physique, your talent, or something that you unwittingly did or said; it’s the same for anti-fans.
Some become anti-fans for no real reason—they simply don’t like you.
Some become anti-fans because their idol and you debut at the same time; you two are rivals, so they will hate you because you and their idol are competitors.

“Take this woman as an example.
Lin Ke and I are around the same age, except Lin Ke never became popular.
This movie that was nominated for the Golden Gui Awards was the best resource that he encountered in these past couple of years, so she hoped that he would win the award.
That way, he would be able to plate himself with a layer of gold.
1

“After all, if you want to obtain resources, you must have something that is even more outstanding than anyone else such as super high popularity, guaranteed viewer ratings, formidable ticket-selling ability, or consummate acting.
Lin Ke doesn’t have the first three, but his acting is pretty decent.
That’s why his fans hope that he can win the award—but he didn’t.
As a result, his resources this year aren’t very good.
So by winning the award, I indirectly formed a competitive relationship with Lin Ke.
His fans also think that if it weren’t for me, this award would have been his.
He would thus advance from a new starting point to an even higher level.”

“So were you two the only ones who were nominated for the Golden Gui Awards?”

“Of course not.”

“Then on what grounds would they think so? Why couldn’t it be that even if you weren’t the one to win the award, there were other people who would, so Lin Ke still wouldn’t have won the award anyway?”

Jiang Mo Chen chuckled, “You haven’t chased a star before, have you?”

Yan Qing Chi nodded, “I don’t have the time (to do so).”

“That’s why you don’t know.
In the eyes of their fans, their idol is the best.
They are worthy of the world’s acknowledgement and of being liked by the whole world.
They deserve to have all the best.”

Yan Qing Chi looked at him and didn’t say a word.

Jiang Mo Chen sighed lightly, “Being an idol is something that can make one very happy, because you know that there are so many people who like you, who will protect you unconditionally; at the same time, being an idol is something that will cause one to experience many things that cannot be helped.
You will see too much.
For some of these things, you will wonder ‘what’s the point? What is the point of doing this?’.
You yourself don’t understand what significance these things have.
Nevertheless, these things continue to happen endlessly.
Take her for example,” Jiang Mo Chen tipped his chin towards the bedroom, “do you think that I resent her right now? I don’t even know her name, what resentment is there to speak of? Am I angry? Of course I am.
But more than that, I feel a sense of resignation and helplessness.
As a person who is perfectly fine, why would she want to carry the crime of intentional homicide upon her back for something like this? Does my death benefit her in any way? Would my death make her richer or her life happier? The two of us are essentially strangers to each other.”

Yan Qing Chi didn’t speak.
He lowered his head to eat another candy.
Before he could touch it, though, Jiang Mo Chen had already picked it up and helped him unwrap the candy wrapper.
He squeezed the candy out from its wrapper and placed it into the other man’s palm.

“But you don’t have to worry.” Jiang Mo Chen told him in a gentle tone, “This kind of thing won’t happen to you.
I won’t let it happen to you.”

Yan Qing Chi promptly stared at him for a while.
He quirked his lip, “Jiang Mo Chen, you underestimate me too much.”

He told him, “You are the one who won’t have something like what happened today happen to you again.
Even if it does, I won’t let you get hurt.”

His eyes were very black, twinkling with faint mirth yet full of determination.
When Jiang Mo Chen gazed into those eyes, he was somehow mesmerized.

He quickly regained his wits, lowering his eyes awkwardly, “This time was an unexpected incident.
But, thank you anyway.”

“What’d you say?”

“I said ‘thank you’.”

“Okay, then from now on, no matter what I say, you can only answer ‘yes, yes, yes, you’re right, you’re right, you’re right, my dear, you are absolutely right!’” Yan Qing Chi promptly and effusively announced.

Jiang Mo Chen hadn’t expected for him to suddenly bring this topic up, taking him off guard.
For a moment, he didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry.
In the end, he laughed out loud, “You are seriously……”

“Intelligent and quick-witted.” Yan Qing Chi finished for him.

Jiang Mo Chen didn’t say anything.
He only finished his sentence in his heart, “…kinda cute.”

After chatting for a while, the two men’s tension and negative moods from the previous events finally eased.
Jiang Mo Chen left the room to explain the situation to the director and reassure the other staff while he was at it.
Seeing that this kind of thing happened, the director, in fear that he wouldn’t be in a good mood, proposed to let him rest for half a day.
However, Jiang Mo Chen turned down the offer, only saying for everything to continue.

The police arrived somewhat late to the scene.
They asked Jiang Mo Chen and Yan Qing Chi some questions.
After recording their statements, they took the woman away.

As he watched Jiang Mo Chen and Zhao Qiang begin filming again, Yan Qing Chi felt that everything that had just happened was like a dream.

Su Nuan stealthily came to his side and poked him.
Yan Qing Chi turned to look at her, “What is it?”

“Your reaction earlier was so fast! And you were so handsome!” Su Nuan praised.

Yan Qing Chi smiled.

Su Nuan asked him, “You didn’t get hurt, did you?”

“No.”

“That’s good.” Her eyes curved up, “Yan Qing Chi, you’re about to take-off.”

“Huh?”

“This counts as you saving Jiang Mo Chen.
With that personality of his, Jiang Mo Chen would definitely help you.
With his help, you’re not far off from becoming popular.”

Yan Qing Chi could only continue to smile.
He could subtly sense some of the ways that the movie crew staff members had looked at him when he came out again (from the apartment).
There was astonishment, puzzlement, and envy.
At the time, he didn’t understand why they would look at him with envy; now, he finally knew why.

They didn’t know his relationship with Jiang Mo Chen.
But with this matter, there was a most legitimate reason for Jiang Mo Chen to take care of him in the future—the favor of saving his life.
It didn’t matter how this favor was repaid; no way would be considered overboard.

“Oh, right.
Speaking of which, what company are you from?” Su Nuan asked.

“Nan Cheng.”

“Ah?” Su Nuan could barely believe it, “Wow, you really are the chosen child of Heaven.
Not only did you save Jiang Mo Chen, you’re an artist from Nan Cheng.
Jiang Mo Chen is the most influential male celebrity in Nan Cheng2.
It’s a matter of minutes for him to carry3 you.
Yan Qing Chi, you really are going to take-off.”

When he heard this, Yan Qing Chi internally commented, “I’m certainly the chosen child of Heaven.
Otherwise, there are so many people to choose from, yet I was the one who was chosen to transmigrate into this book.” He looked at Su Nuan, “What about you? What company are you from?”

“Light Entertainment.” Su Nuan answered him without any reservations, “Don’t forget me when you become popular in the future.”

“Alright.”

Su Nuan smiled gently, and didn’t say anything else.

Footnotes

In anticipation of raised questions about why I didn’t close these paragraphs of dialogue with a ending quotation mark, we use the closing quotation mark only when the character finally finishes speaking.
You can check out sites like “Master Class” (check section 7), “Proofed.” (check section 4), or “The Editor’s Blog” (“Multiple paragraphs of dialogue”) for other examples.
The raws said ”南橙一哥” (something like “First Brother of Nan Cheng”).
Being the “一哥” of a company means that they are the most popular male celebrity and have the most say.
They’re like the top dogs of the other talents in the entertainment company.
There is a corresponding title for females (一姐 = first/top sister).”带飞你” (“take you in flight”) basically means ”carry” like how it is used in games, where someone helps bring the other person or their team to success.
