Jiang Mo Chen watched as Yan Qing Chi called Qiqi with a gentle expression and was reminded of how he had held the latter’s hand earlier in the darkness.
They’ve been married for a while now; they’ve kissed and ‘driven’—they’ve never lacked for any physical contact, but they have never properly held hands1.
The world of adults was ultimately different from when one was a student.
Other than feelings, there were more things in the mix.
Just like how, on the day that they got the marriage certificate, they could also ‘get on the car with their license’ that night despite neither of them being that familiar with the other.
——At the time, he did not want to talk about feelings, nor did he think that he would develop feelings for Yan Qing Chi.
His thinking was that since they got married, the two of them were going to be together for the rest of their lives.
Then, naturally, they should interact with one another in the same fashion as a married couple.
It might be overly formal and pretentious to insist on ‘driving’ after they got to know each other better and had favorable feelings for each other.
If he didn’t ever develop any feelings for Yan Qing Chi for a lifetime, then wouldn’t they have to be sexually abstinent for a lifetime and essentially live like widowers?

There was no need for that.
Since they’ve gotten married, then they ought to interact with one another according to how normal married couples did.
They had only skipped the step of romance, but their married life should be like everyone else’s.
So, Jiang Mo Chen chose to directly consummate the marriage on the day that they received the marriage certificate.
He used this simplest and most direct method to bind them together.
On that night, he held Yan Qing Chi in his arms and warned himself: Yan Qing Chi is the first person to have sexual relations with him, and he will be the only one.
Because only he can; only he is allowed to.

But now, Jiang Mo Chen recalled how he felt when he held Yan Qing Chi’s hand earlier: tender and soft, serene, as well as some joy.
That joy was actually not very intense but not able to be ignored either.
It was like a dandelion blown by the wind on a summer day, swaying gently from side to side under the blue sky, falling in all directions onto the soil.
That kind of joy also fell into his entire heart cavity.
It was very small, but it delighted him in addition to bringing him some satisfaction and making him want to cherish it.

This was an experience that Jiang Mo Chen had never had before.
He carefully folded it up and stored it in his heart.
As he looked at Yan Qing Chi, for some reason, he felt that the Yan Qing Chi at this moment carried the sweet aroma of popcorn.

Qiqi was blearily woken up by Yan Qing Chi.
It was at this time that he realized that he hadn’t been watching the animated film.
He looked at the big screen which was already playing the credits, quite sad and aggrieved.

Jiang Mo Chen, seeing him close to tears, hastily coaxed, “How about we watch one more time? This way, we can watch what happens next.”

Qiqi hadn’t thought that they could do that.
He looked towards Jiang Mo Chen, surprised, “Can we?”

“Of course.
Qiqi can watch for as long as you like.” In any case, he had bought the whole day’s screenings of this movie theater.

Yan Qing Chi looked at him with disbelief, “You reserved the next showtime as well?”

“Up until 11 PM, no one else will come into this theater.”

Yan Qing Chi admired that, “Incredible, incredible.”

Qiqi, seeing that he could watch again, wasn’t sad anymore.
Instead, a smile came back onto his face.
And then he discovered, “There’s no more popcorn?”

Jiang Mo Chen and Yan Qing Chi silently glanced at each other, both of them feeling a seldom-felt sheepishness.

“I’ll go buy some.” Yan Qing Chi said.

“Don’t go.” Jiang Mo Chen called, “Little Wang.”

Wang Xiang Hai promptly jolted awake from his dreams.

Jiang Mo Chen looked at him, “You slept fairly well.”

Little Wang: …It’s because I didn’t want to disturb your family of three!

“Go buy some popcorn.”

Little Wang promptly got up and headed out.

Yan Qing Chi leaned against the back of the sofa.
Once he thought about how he actually had to watch it again, he was virtually deadened.
But what else could he do? He was going to watch the animated film that his little treasure wanted to watch even if he had to kneel.

Having taken a nap, Qiqi was more spirited now.
As he watched, he would exchange his thoughts on the movie with Yan Qing Chi and Jiang Mo Chen.
Seeing that the child was busy watching the animated movie and talking, Yan Qing Chi fed him popcorn one kernel at a time.

Qiqi pushed his hand, saying, “Daddy, you eat too.”

Yan Qing Chi said “Okay,” and ate one.
Then, as if he had thought of something, he took several more kernels and looked towards Jiang Mo Chen, “Do you want to eat some popcorn?”

When Jiang Mo Chen heard that, he lowered his head and reached out to grab some from the bucket; however, Yan Qing Chi stretched out his hand until it was right in front of him (JMC).

Jiang Mo Chen raised his eyes.
Yan Qing Chi smiled, “I’ll feed you too.”

Jiang Mo Chen stared at him.
For a moment, he did not speak.

Qiqi, seeing him still, pushed at him, “Father eat too.”

 “Hurry and eat some.
Qiqi has already told you to.” Yan Qing Chi said.

Only then did Jiang Mo Chen dip his head, his lips brushing against the space between Yan Qing Chi’s fingers.
Yan Qing Chi withdrew his hand and asked him, “Is it sweet?”

Jiang Mo Chen bit into the popcorn in his mouth, smiling slightly, “En.”

Thus, Yan Qing Chi also smiled.
He commented, “I guessed as much.”

By the time the family of three and Wang Xiang Hai watched the movie and came out, it was already 6 PM.
They could go eat dinner.

Jiang Mo Chen dug out his phone and checked it.
Sure enough, someone had recognized him when he was retrieving the movie tickets; they had taken a picture of him and Yan Qing Chi together.
This was the best result.
Otherwise, he would have Wang Xiang Hai post a picture of them together as a passerby and say that he (WXH) had run into them by chance at the cinema.
Now, since there was a real passerby, there was no need for Wang Xiang Hai to do that anymore.

Yan Qing Chi glanced at his phone and caught sight of the photo of them.
Although this photo was sneakily taken by a passerby, it wasn’t grainy nor was it blurry, so one could clearly distinguish the two stars of the photo.

In the photo, Jiang Mo Chen was wearing a hat and mask.
Only a pair of attractive eyes could be seen.
Yet his eyes were currently full of merriment as he gazed warmly at Yan Qing Chi, who stood in front of him.
As for himself, Yan Qing Chi thought that he seemed a little silly.
He was looking at Jiang Mo Chen with a somewhat blank expression and some surprise.

Yan Qing Chi took out his own phone and looked Jiang Mo Chen up.
He was met with this Weibo post hanging up on Jiang Mo Chen’s Weibo plaza2:

The Moon Today is Big and Round: When I went with my friend to watch a movie, we just so happened to run into Film Emperor Jiang.
Who’s that xiao gege beside him? They seem to be on very good terms.
He’s also very attractive.
[picture]

Very soon, this Weibo post of his was seen by the Little Houses.
The comments poured in one after another.

【A fan is not as good as a passer-by.
The whole world is running into someone, but why haven’t I ever seen gege[bawl][bawl][bawl]3.】

【Oh my goodness, how could gege’s eyes be so good-looking? They really have stars in them.
They’re so gentle.
Wahhh, I want to die in gege’s eyes.】

【Ahhhhhhhhhh! I, who chases the stars in an illiterate manner, only knows how to holler.
Gege, how can you be so gentle? Don’t look at him, look at me!】

【Gege surprisingly went to watch a movie, and with Little Sparrow too.
The two of them look like they have a very good relationship[happy].】

The Original Poster (OP)4 replied to this comment, asking her: 【Who is ‘Little Sparrow’? Is it the very good-looking xiao gege next to him?】

Someone instantly replied to the OP: 【Yeah.
Yeah, it is.
Little Sparrow’s full name is @Yan Qing Chi.
He’s still a rookie.
Recently, he’s been filming a movie with Film Emperor Jiang.
If the OP is interested, you can press on his Weibo page and get a better understanding of him~】

Soon enough, there were many people promoting 《Lost》under this reply, tactfully expressing that the OP could look forward to it.

Yan Qing Chi thought that this was still okay; it was just this one Weibo post.
Yet, in a place that he couldn’t see, it was not something as simple as one Weibo post.

Hei Fei looked at the ‘Chéngchí cp’ that was suddenly born in the Super Topic5.
He was curious about which ship this was, but once he entered the Super Topic, he was so scared that he nearly threw his phone.

A City7: 【It’s too sweet!!!! It’s too sweet!!! Today’s candy is really sweet.
Wahhh.
My thanks to CEO Jiang.
My thanks to Little Sparrow.
My thanks to the OP.】

Trembling, He Fei tapped into the comments, only to see that compared to the OP, the comments in the comment section was very heartfelt8!

Spring has gone, spring has come again: 【Look at CEO Jiang’s eyes.
I’m begging you, Older Sisters, look at CEO Jiang’s eyes.
They’re so gentle and doting.
When has CEO Jiang ever looked at someone like this?! It’s too sweet!】

When the sparrow came, there’s a new group9: 【Holy sh*t! I frigging ship it so hard! Gentle, doting gong x clever10, sensible shou.
Little Sparrow looks so cute today.
And a little slow [cute].】

【Did nobody notice that the main point of today’s candy is that it’s just the two of them?! Just! The! Two! Of Them! Are CEO Jiang and Little Sparrow on a date by themselves? Just the thought of it makes me very excited.】

【Holy shiz, the commenter above is absolutely right.】

【The commenter above the commenter above is absolutely right.
Something like a date by themselves, just the thought of it is very sweet.】

【155111, I feel like my ship has sailed12.】

【No matter if it’s real or not, ‘if there is alcohol on this day, then I shall get drunk on this day’13; if I have candy today, then I will enjoy the sweetness today.
Our Chéngchí is so cold (niche)14.
I’m already very content being able to have this kind of candy! 】

【Don’t worry, this is just the beginning.
I believe that one day, our fandom will heat up! Chéngchí girls never give up.
You can do it, Chéngchí! 】

【Speaking of which, are we calling it ‘Chéngchí’? Not ‘Mòyàn’15?】

【Please no.
If we have the same character, the neighboring fandom will follow the scent trail and find us.
Hah, their idol tied [his name with Jiang Mo Chen’s] and chased after someone who doesn’t want him, yet they aren’t shamefaced.
In fact, they even proclaim themselves to be the ‘official wife’.
They’re truly disgusting.】

【Hahahaha.
If the commenter above hadn’t brought it up, I would have forgotten.
‘Official wife’? He made such a big commotion when he returned to the country: the trending search, marketing accounts, and the internet-wide push.
He even personally @’ed CEO Jiang.
And then? CEO Jiang completely ignored him.
And they claim to be the ‘official wife’.
It’s ridiculous】

【Come to think of it, don’t you folks find the matter last time very peculiar? Up until 4 PM, there was still the top trending search, marketing account, and internet-wide push.
But after 4 PM, the trending search was gone, the marking account’s Weibo post was gone, everything that’s related was gone—except for that person’s Weibo post which is still up there, hanging awkwardly (on his Weibo page).
Combining this with how CEO Jiang never responded, I smell some drama…】

【Now that the older sister who commented above put it like that, I indeed have a notion.】

【Shh.
You better stop right there before you say something you shouldn’t.
Focus on our own fandom, or it’ll be disgusting if it truly draws the neighboring fandom over.
If the Older Sisters want to chat, you can join the Chéngchí groupchat.
This is the Weibo groupchat, and this is the qq groupchat.】

【So are we really calling it ‘Chéngchí’ (City)? Even if we don’t call it ‘Mòyàn’, ‘YànWō’ (Edible Bird’s Nest)16 works too.
I mean, nest = house = Chen.
Older sisters, consider it for a moment.】

【Commenter above, the order of YànWō is backwards17! Chéngchí cannot be torn apart and cannot be reversed!】

【+1, why do you think CEO Jiang is called CEO Jiang? It’s because he is the ultimate gong in the entertainment circle!】

【Wasn’t it because CEO Jiang inherently possesses a domineering CEO aura?】

【…Just which one is it?】

【Let me explain.
It’s both.
In the very beginning, it was because once in an event, CEO Jiang took control of the floor wearing a tailored armani suit.
His comportment had its own ‘domineering CEO’ attribute buff, so fans started calling him ‘CEO Jiang’.
Afterwards, there was a certain crackship video18.
CEO Jiang assumed the ultimate gong position for a long time, so there are also people who refer to him as ‘CEO Jiang’ because of this.
】

【My thanks to the Older Sister who commented above.
Everyone, remember to join the groupchat~】

He Fei stared at the Weibo groupchat and qq groupchat in the comment section.
He felt that he had opened the great door to a whole new world!

Footnotes

Ah yes, the most intimate act of all—handholding.Apparently the ‘Weibo plaza’ is a term that refers to the Weibo post that shows up when you search someone up on the internet.
Chinese source here.Something like this: To be more specific, it was “Weibo post owner”.超话 (chāohuà; literally “Super Topic”), a section in Weibo that gathers similar posts under a hashtag.
To quote this ultimate guide to Sina Weibo, “‘Super Topics’ allow users to discuss a certain topic and post relevant content to the page, and since it is actively moderated it can provide more valuable information than a standard hashtag.
Within ‘Super Topics’ there are some unique features, including “essential content” and the “hall of fame” where content is manually selected by moderators to be featured for users visiting the ‘super-topic.’”I haven’t figured out a good, neat-looking formatting for online comments, so I’m just going to use the text message format for now.一座城池Not that the OP wasn’t sincere and genuine, but the shippers/cp fans were more excited about it.燕子来时新社.
燕子 (yànzi) has the same Yan character as YQC’s surname.乖巧懂事 (guāiqiǎodǒngshì).
To be more accurate, it has the connotation of a clever child or person who is lovable.
Another way to translate this description of the shou is “clever and well-behaved”.they’re cryingLiterally this was “I’ve ‘knocked’ the real/genuine one” (rough translation of the raw “我磕到了真的了”).
I translated this into English fandom terms.
Saying that their “ship has sailed” is referring to how the couple/pairing or the relationship that they like has become official or has something happen that makes shippers (cp fans) feel like the ship was validated“今朝有酒今朝醉” (jīnzhāoyǒujiǔjīnzhāozuì) – an idiom meaning to live in the moment/live each day like it’s your last/enjoy while you can (ripped definition from MDBG).
Here’s a Baidu link for it.
I gave the literal translation though because I think it transitions better to the next part.Basically the fandom for the Chengchi/city ship is relatively smaller since it’s less popular and more niche.墨燕.
The same characters for the Mo in Jiang Mo Chen and Yan Qing Chi’s Yan.
It’s a dish in Chinese cuisine.
Here’s a Wikipedia link for it.
It has the same Yan as in Yan Qing Chi.In Chinese fandom, the top/seme/gong’s name is in front.
So this commenter is protesting that the ship name since that would set YQC as the top in the relationshipI finally found an explanation for “拉郎” (lāláng) in terms of shipping! So it seems that the term refers to a hobby of netizens and fans to draw a forced analogy and bring two people/characters, who originally did not have any ‘shippable’ characteristics together or any inkling of romance/feelings between them (usually due to no to minimal interaction), into a ship.
Chinese source here.
I used “crack ship” based upon this English fandom site’s glossary.
